PRESENTATION

The staff of Georges Clemenceau's house and gardens offer you an intimate twilight tour of Georges Clemenceau's leisure activities.

Georges Clemenceau is still identified as a major political figure of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Statesman, political fighter, the Tiger, the Father of Victory - these are just some of the adjectives associated with him.

Is there room for leisure in such a busy life ?

Yet the illustrious figure had many occupations. Hunting, sport, theatre, a passion for contemporary art and travel were all activities that punctuated Georges Clemenceau's life.

After his retirement from political life in January 1920, Georges Clemenceau divided his time between Paris and his shack in Saint-Vincent-sur-Jard.

He rented the house at the end of 1919. This fisherman's cottage overlooking the sea from the top of a dune was the place where Clemenceau could indulge in many leisure activities: creating his garden, writing, having lively conversations with celebrities, reading, contemplating nature and spending intimate moments with his family and close friends.
